MOBO Fringe Virtual Song
Instructions for Learning the Song
Familiarisation with the Performance Track
Begin by listening to the performance track of the song. Pay attention to how the lyrics flow and the overall melody.
Follow along with the lyrics, singing softly to get a feel for the rhythm and phrasing.
Practice as a Group
Once everyone is familiar with the song, gather as a group to practice singing together.
Start by singing along with the performance track, ensuring that everyone is comfortable with the lyrics and tune.
Transition to Backing Track
As confidence increases, attempt to sing using just the backing track. This will encourage independence and enhance vocal blending within the group.
If any section proves too challenging, it is completely acceptable to revert to the performance track for support.
Recording
When the group feels ready, use the attached document to guide the recording process.
Ensure everyone understands the expectations for the recording, including how to set up and perform as a cohesive unit.
Final Review
After recording, review the playback together to discuss strengths and areas for improvement.
Celebrate progress and encourage everyone to continue developing their vocal skills.
The final song needs to be sent to robkitchen@gateshead.gov.uk by the 7th February 2025.
Performance Track
We are excited to introduce the MOBO Virtual Song Opportunity for schools, designed to inspire creativity and showcase the talents of young musicians. This initiative provides students with the opportunity to engage in a collaborative music-making experience, enhancing their skills and confidence in the process.
This year, featured prominently is the song "God Gave Me Feet For Dancing" by the Ezra Collective, featuring Yazmin Lacey. The Ezra Collective, known for their dynamic sound and fusion of genres, were the proud winners of last year's Mercury Music Award and have been nominated for a MOBO this year. The virtual performance of "God Gave Me Feet For Dancing" will be showcased at the start of this year's awards, highlighting the importance of youth participation in the arts.
Below, you will find the lyrics, performance tracks, and backing track necessary to participate. We encourage schools to explore these resources and inspire students to express their unique voices through music.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Birds flying high
I don't know how they feel
People outside
In search of something real
And I need mine to get me started
Something to get me started
Got to get me started
[Chorus]
Give me bassline
Give me good times
God gave me feet for dancing
And that's exactly what I'll do
Give me high life
Give me good times
God gave me feet for dancing
La la la la la_____
La la la_____
x4
Backing Track
[Verse 2]
Time ain't waiting
It's a rhythm that you play
Don't let it go
Be ready when tomorrow comes
When tomorrow comеs
Take the hands of the onеs that you love
And when the high life comes
Together, we'll dance as one (Oh)
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
So here we are
Identical strangers
And we move the same way
And let the music change us
Birds fly high
And it's got me started
Now I've got mine
That's got me started
Got me started
God gave me feet for dancing
God gave me feet for dancing
God gave me feet for dancing
God gave me feet for dancing
[Chorus] x 2
